TRE (Tension & Trauma Release Exercises) were developed by David Bercelli (Phd), as a series of seven exercises that activate the natural therapeutic shaking mechanism within the human body. The tremors/ shaking assist in releasing chronic held muscular tension patterns to allow the nervous system to return to a state of balance.
Trauma can mean anything that overwhelms the nervous system, whether it be physical, emotional or psychological in nature. The primitive part of our brain takes over instinctively, when we face a traumatic situation or event and our muscles contract to protect the body from the perceived threat of danger.
When we don’t release the charge from our bodies after the dangerous threat has passed, our brain reads that it is still out there and we remain in a primed and anxious state. In the long term, the unreleased tension can create aches and pains, digestive problems, PTSD symptoms, depression, anxiety and a host of other chronic conditions.
TRE is designed to release the muscular tension held in the body in a safe, comfortable and sustainable way. As tension is released, the body and mind return to a more balanced and relaxed state, chronic conditions can get better and we develop stronger resiliency in our systems to meet life’s challenges.
